Bowtie RISK is built and hosted by an independent personal developer on Railway (railway.com) cloud infrastructure. It is provided free of charge on an "AS IS" basis under MIT-style terms. No warranty or guarantee of any kind is given for data security, confidentiality, uptime, or data saving/persistence. Do not store confidential, sensitive, or safety-critical records here without keeping your own local exported backups.
1. Personal Developer Operation & Railway Hosting
Bowtie RISK (https://bowtierisk.com and https://app.bowtierisk.com) is an independent software project operated by a personal developer—not a commercial enterprise, regulated safety consultancy, or certified cloud vendor.
The web application, embedded SQLite database, JSON workspace snapshots, and file attachments run inside a single container with an attached persistent storage volume hosted on Railway Corp. (railway.com) in the European Union (Amsterdam region).
2. MIT-Style "AS IS" Warranty & Liability Disclaimer
Use of the Bowtie RISK software and hosted web service is governed by the standard MIT License warranty and liability disclaimer reproduced below:
IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS, DEVELOPERS, OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES, DATA LOSS, SECURITY BREACH, OPERATIONAL INCIDENT, OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE OR HOSTED SERVICE.
3. No Guarantee of Data Saving, Backups, or Persistence
We explicitly do not guarantee that your diagrams, folders, user accounts, or uploaded attachments will be saved indefinitely or protected against data loss.
- Volume & Infrastructure Limits: Because this service runs on a personal developer account on Railway with finite disk volume capacity, older version snapshots are pruned automatically, and container redeployments, volume migrations, database resets, or hosting outages may result in partial or total loss of stored data at any time without notice.
- Your Responsibility to Export Local Backups: If you create a Bowtie diagram that you wish to keep, you are solely responsible for exporting it to your own device (via JSON workspace export, PDF, or PNG download) immediately after editing.
4. No Warranty of Data Security or Confidentiality
No warranty is given regarding the security, confidentiality, or invulnerability of data uploaded to Bowtie RISK.
- While the application implements standard technical measures (such as Argon2id password hashing and HTTPS transport via Railway), it has not undergone formal third-party penetration testing, SOC 2 auditing, or ISO 27001 certification.
- Do Not Upload Sensitive or Classified Data: You must not upload trade secrets, classified facility vulnerabilities, personally identifiable information (PII) of third parties, or regulated data to
app.bowtierisk.com. If you need isolated storage, you should self-host the Rust binary on your own private infrastructure.
5. Not Engineering, Legal, or Regulatory Safety Advice
Bowtie RISK—including its diagramming canvas, barrier cost fields, and the Situation Runner™ time-based simulation engine—is a visual conceptual modeling tool only.
- Nothing in Bowtie RISK constitutes professional engineering advice, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) sign-off, Safety Integrity Level (SIL) verification, or regulatory compliance certification under ISO 31000, IEC 31010, IEC 61508/61511, OSHA PSM, or UK HSE regulations.
- Simulation timers and barrier hold times are simplified illustrative animations and must never be used to make real-world plant design, operational, or emergency-response decisions.
6. Acceptable Use & Service Termination
You agree not to abuse the service, upload malicious files, attempt unauthorized access to other users' workspaces, or overload the Railway server. As a personal developer project, the operator reserves the right to modify, suspend, reset, or permanently shut down the hosted service or any user account at any time, for any reason, without notice or liability.
